Artisans Road Trip Looking forward to 2014!

The Artisans Road Trip is ramping up to prepare for its 2nd decade in 2014!  Since its beginning back in 2004, the A.R.T. has been bringing the best artists in the region to the public's eye and creating opportunities for area and regional exhibits, and opening many artist's studios to everyone taking in the event when it culminates every October.  This coming season - A.R.T. 2014 will hold its October event during the "second" weekend of October; a change from the first weekend due to large event conflicts that have taken place in recent years.

And, as in every year at this time, A.R.T. is putting out the welcome mat for new and past artists to join in for the 2014!  Artists are encouraged to download the application for the Call for Entry at - http://www.artisansroadtrip.com/2014-CallforEntry.pdf  If an applicant does not have access to the internet, or just desires more information, they can call 712 732-6286.

2013 A.R.T. Artists at the Invitational Exhibit "Wood & Metal"

Arts on Grand in Spencer, Iowa is now presenting a special invitational exhibit titled "Wood & Metal" which will run through November 23rd.

 A.R.T. member artist William Lieb is exhibiting five wood wall reliefs and five steel sculptures plus models of two large public sculptures in this event. The actual full-size public sculptures are on display four blocks south of Arts on Grand in the new Clay County Heritage Center's exterior courtyard. They are titled "Wind Time, When Time Is Controlled By The Wind" and "Do We Care, We Do Care". (These can be viewed in the video above)

A.R.T. members Perry Polson and Marisa Sidles are also represented in the Wood & Metal exhibit along with six other artists. A reception is planned for Thursday, November 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Arts on Grand.

Activities continue for artists of the 2013 Artisans Road Trip!  Remember - just because the "road trip" part of the 2013 A.R.T. is past, doesn't mean the 2013 A.R.T. events and activities are over!  We still have exhibits at the Pearson Lakes Art Center at Okoboji, Iowa and one that has just ended at Spencer Iowa's Arts on Grand, and yet another coming up in the next couple months at the Clear lake Art Center - more on that at a later time.

A new event coming up for 2013 A.R.T. Sioux Center, Iowa artist Joanne Alberda, is at Northwestern College!  The new exhibition opens on Oct. 28 and runs until Nov. 15.  "Tales from Heaven and Earth", an exhibition of fabric artwork will be on display in Northwestern College's Te Paske Gallery.  A public reception is scheduled for Friday, November 1 at 7 p.m.

From Terril, Iowa, Anita K. Plucker, nicknamed Katie, recently retired - finally enabling her to become a full-time artist and to continue her love to teach by conducting workshops throughout the Midwest.  Anita has been a popular art instructor for many art organizations, including the Amana Arts Guild, the Pearson Lakes Art Center, Arts on Grand, A Piece of Work, the Blanden and others.  She is a member of area arts councils and arts committees, a participant in the Artisans Road Trip event, is a member of the Transparent Watercolor Society, a signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society and a charter member of the Colored Pencil Society of America.

Anita's watercolor paintings and colored pencil drawings reflect her life in the upper Midwest - rural landscapes. waterscapes, architecture indicative to this area. Currently her inspiration and focus for her work are the designs, the patterning created as nature and man play with the surface of the land and water. The bulk of her work has been created from photos taken while kayaking, one of her favorite ways to get up close with nature. Anita's approach to her artwork is realistic and her style ranges from loose flowing brushstrokes to tightly controlled detail. She looks for spatial relationship with the subject matter and loves to simulate surface texture.

The Pearson Lakes Art Center will exhibit her work, titled Reflections: That Time, That Place, October 24th through December 31st, in the Weaver Lobby and McIlrath Landing Galleries of the center. Meet the artist at the Opening Reception, Thursday, October 24, 5-7 p.m., with an Artist Talk at 6 p.m.

Wow, its been a week since the big weekend for the 2013 Artisans Road trip - time sure flies by when you're having fun doesn't it!  The artists participating in this year's activities want to take a moment to say "Thank You" to everyone we had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with, old friends and new acquaintances alike!

But the Artisans Road Trip activities actually last all year - year round!  Don't forget to take advantage of the A.R.T. exhibit showing at Arts on Grand in Spencer through October 26th, and the A.R.T. exhibit at the Pearson Lakes Art Center clear up through December 7th!

The artists of A.R.T. also keep busy throughout the year with their own exhibits and shows - right now you can see 2013 A.R.T. artist Dave Strom up at Worthington, Minnesota in the Nobles County Art Center.  The opening reception for Strom’s exhibit, which he calls “D. Strom: The Search Never Ends,” will be from 2 to 4 p.m. this Sunday (October 13). The exhibit continues through October. Hours are 2 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The 2013 Artisans Road Trip is almost here!  This coming weekend will mark the 10th Anniversary of this Artist driven, Artist supported, and Artist created Open Studio and Gallery Event!

The scope of the 2013 Artisans Road Trip is diverse and wide...artists of all disciplines and regions.  Painters, and other two dimensional artists and photographers from the Great Lakes area, through the Spencer area, rural Hartley and down through Peterson and Storm Lake.  Potters, Sculptors and Wood Turners and other three dimensional artists from  Storm Lake, rural Linn Grove, Peterson, the Spencer area, and Great Lakes area to Estherville.

Go to the artists at the A.R.T. website to see where they are and what they do!  Take a day trip through the autumn countryside and see where they work and where they are displaying - make a weekend of it! 

The artists of the 2013 A.R.T. spend all year long working together and in their studios to make this a great event - we welcome you to our studios and galleries for a great time - hope to see on Saturday - October 5th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday - October 6th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.!!!

The 2013 Artisans Road Trip is opening before the year long awaited event with two great exhibits at Arts on Grand in Spencer, Iowa and at the Pearson Lakes Art Center at Okoboji, Iowa this week!!!

The Artisans Road Trip exhibits at area/regional arts centers and galleries throughout the year, but this is the big A.R.T. push before the October 5 and 6th event this year.   

The Pearson Lakes Art Center and Arts on Grand exhibits will not only give a preview of what's in store for visitors to the studios and galleries during the Artisans Road Trip, but will embody a complete exhibit on their own!  Each exhibit will host an opening reception with many of the A.R.T. artists in attendance.  The Arts on Grand 2013 A.R.T. exhibit opening reception will be on Tuesday - September 24th at 5:00 through 7:00 p.m. and the Pearson Lakes Art Center will host their opening reception on Thursday September 26th from 5:00 through 7:00 p.m.

The Arts on Grand exhibition of the 2013 Artisans Road Trip will run through October 26th and the exhibition at the Pearson Lakes Art Center will run through December 7th.
